FOSTER INFORMATION
What is Fostering?
When you foster you are agreeing to take a homeless dog into your home and provide love, care and shelter until your foster dog finds his/her forever home. Full support and advice is provided 24/7 and help with training will be provided by the rescue. All fosters will receive a foster pack which includes food, bed, collar, lead. All expenses including vet treatment is covered by the rescue however we are also happy if you wish to buy your own food, collars, leads, toys etc for your foster dog.
Why Should I Foster?
Fostering a dog is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have (other than adopting, of course). By taking an animal in need temporarily into your home you’re freeing up a spot so the pounds or rescue can take in another dog, giving your foster dog the time he needs to be ready for adoption, helping the rescue learn more about the dog so he can end up in the best home possible and socializing the dog to a home environment and possibly getting him used to being around other pets and different types of people.
Who Can Foster?
Anyone can apply to foster however you must pass a home check before being accepted into our foster programme this involves one of our experienced home checkers coming out to your home to assess you, your family and your home. This is not as invasive as it sounds but we must check that you can provide a good, stable and loving home whilst a dog is in your care and that everyone in your family is committed. We also need to know that your home is a safe environment. Here is a small list of some of the things we look for in foster carer;

- Animal lovers, ideally with experience of owning a dog
- Must be patient as dogs may be frightened or anxious going into a new home and need time to settle and adjust
- Must be dedicated as fostering a dog can be anything from a few weeks to several months
- Are willing to follow our rescue's guidance and advice on training and handling and adhere to foster contract
- Are happy to play a part in the rehoming process by providing photos, videos and regular updates
FOSTER PROCEDURES
This is a guideline on what to expect when applying to join our foster programme;
- If you think you have what it takes to become a foster carer please fill in the form below and email it back to us.
- When we receive your completed form we will assess it and arrange for a homecheck to be done as soon as possible, please try to be flexible as our volunteers do this in their spare time.
- If you pass the homecheck we will give you a foster contract which must be completed and signed.
- We will then arrange for a suitable dog to be placed in your care.
- Whilst one of our dogs is in your care you are responsible for exercising and socializing your foster dog as well as providing a loving, safe and stable environment and everyday basic care. Support, advice and training will always be available.
- Your foster dog will need some time to adjust and bond with you, please try to be understanding and patient.
- You are responsible for updating the rescue on your foster dogs progress and you must contact the rescue if any issues arise so we can provide you with any tools or training that may be required.
- Saying goodbye to your foster dog when he/she leaves for their forever home can be heartbreaking however you have helped him on his way and got him ready for this moment and now you can help another dog on their journey to becoming adopted.
- If you wish do adopt your foster dog, you may do so but you must inform the rescue that you intend to adopt your foster dog before any homechecks are arranged (you will be notified of this) with potential new owners as this can be very upsetting. Adoption fee still applies.
Dogs needing foster homes
These dogs are currently in local authority pounds or our emergency kennels (unless otherwise stated), we cannot save them or bring them into rescue unless we have offers of foster homes. Please note these dogs have not been assessed and are not child or cat tested therefore we require foster homes with older children and no cats unless able to separate. Not all pounds are able to dog test but we will add this information to a dogs profile if we feel they could live with other dogs.
